Oscar-nominated Quinn Redeker, a DAYS and Y&R alum, has passed away

Quinn Redeker, who appeared on Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless, passed away last month at the age of 86.

Actor and writer Quinn K. Redeker, whose career included stops on Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless, died of natural causes on December 20, 2022. Redeker was 86.

In 1979, Redeker made his daytime debut as Nick Reed on The Young and the Restless. The role lasted less than a year. He would later return to the CBS soap in a totally different role: Rex Sterling. Redeker played Rex from 1988 through 1994. A decade later, he made a guest appearance as Rex's spirit.

Redeker's longest tenured role was that of the dastardly Alex Marshall on Days of our Lives. Redeker appeared as Alex from 1979 to 1987.

Outside of daytime, Redeker earned critical acclaim as the writer of The Deer Hunter. Redeker earned an Academy Award nomination in 1979 for Best Original Screenplay. The movie, starring Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, and Meryl Streep, earned eight other Oscar nominations and took home the prize for Best Picture.

On its verified Twitter account, The Young and the Restless acknowledged Redeker's death, writing, "The Y&R Family sends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Quinn Redeker who blessed Y&R with his talents in two memorable roles."

Jess Walton (Jill Abbott) recalled her time working with Redeker and the important lesson she learned from him: "lock eyes with your scenemate before they call action no matter how long ……really connect with them ……it makes everything else go away."
