The Young and the Restless' Abby Newman was finally reunited with Chance this week, but the couple's hoped-for fairytale ending doesn't look to be anywhere in sight. In fact, Abby's portrayer, Melissa Ordway, says it's probably a long time coming -- if it happens at all!
In a new interview with JLJ Media, the actress teases that Chance and Abby won't be just picking up where they left off before Chance was called away in January. "I'm not sure if that's how it's going to go," she previews. "I think it's going to be a lot more dramatic than, 'Hey, you're back. Cool! We're in love again, we're gonna raise this baby and it's gonna be happily ever after.'"
While there's no telling what Y&R's writers have in store for the couple, Ordway couldn't help but reveal that a certain Genoa City staple might play heavily into Abby and Chance's prospects for a happy future: the couple's sperm donor, Devon (Bryton James)!
"There's some things going on with Devon; there's the baby attachment, and the kind of closeness that happened between Abby and Devon while Chance was away," the actress teases, adding that the couple also has to deal with "everything that Chance has gone through over in Spain."
Devon and Abby have had a close friendship for years, and many Y&R viewers have picked up on the chemistry -- which Ordway says she and James have been "playing up for the past nine years."
"We're not related! I [Abby] can only date certain people and he's on the list," she jokes, adding that Devon is "on the top of Abby's list, so, we'll see what happens."
In the meantime, fans are keen to see what kind of chemistry Chance and Abby have now that the former is being played by Conner Floyd, who took over the role from previous portrayer Donny Boaz. So far, the reaction to Floyd has been positive -- but Ordway says it's always difficult to say goodbye to a close colleague and adjust to someone new.
"It's hard because you develop a relationship with someone on camera and as the characters -- you really try to find that groove with someone," she explains. "It's always like, not ideal, but at the same time, it's the acting business, so, you kind of just roll with the punches, and you're like, 'Okay, cool. What's next?' I always trust the vision of the people that are writing the show and the people that are behind the scenes... Sometimes it's like, 'Oh, that stinks,' but then sometimes you're like, 'Okay, I trust you, whatever you have in mind, let's do it,' and you just kind of forge forward."
