After graduating from high school, Scott attended acting classes at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and studied under renowned acting coach Carole D'Andrea. A native of Southern California, Scott was born in Santa Monica and grew up in the San Fernando Valley.

Scott first became known to daytime audiences for his portrayal of Jake Hogansen on the daytime drama Days of our Lives.

Other television credits include co-starring roles in the mini-series I Know My First Name is Steven and Teen Angel II. He starred opposite Martha Byrne (Lily, As the World Turns) in the CBS made-for-television movie When the Cradle Falls and also appeared in the made-for-television film Hearts Adrift. He guest-starred in the CBS primetime series Chicago Hope. Reeves also starred in the telefilm Half a Dozen Babies with his wife Melissa Reeves (Jennifer, Days of our Lives).

Scott was most well known for his ten year portrayal of Ryan McNeil on The Young and the Restless. Scott once teamed up with colleagues Jerry Douglas and Jeanne Cooper (John and Katherine, Y&R) and Bobbie Eakes (Macy, The Bold and the Beautiful) in a touring variety show titled "The Young and Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful Soap Stars in Concert."

Scott left Y&R and his character was killed off to pursue a country music career as one half of the duo "Blue Country" with actor Aaron Benward. In 2004 they released a self-titled album, four singles made it to the Billboard charts, and they released three music videos. The duo appeared on a few country music award shows, and was nominated for best duo more than once. Eight years after he left daytime, Scott returned as Dr. Steven Lars Webber on General Hospital.

Scott made his feature film debut in the 1987 Paramount film Big Man on Campus. He has also appeared in Edge of Honor and Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan.

He enjoys sports, backpacking, and playing the guitar. He and his wife Melissa Reeves, who played Jennifer Horton on Days of Our Lives, have two children, Emily and Larry.
