Though unconfirmed by ABC, Soap Central has learned that Michael Easton (Caleb Morley, Port Charles) will be joining the cast of One Life to Live upon the conclusion of the now-cancelled Port Charles.

"I feel very fortunate to be joining One Life to Live," Easton said in a statement. "I am looking forward to working with the very talented cast and crew."

For weeks online fans have been buzzing about Easton as a possible replacement for Roger Howarth's Todd Manning. In February, Howarth left One Life to Live in and the role he created in 1993. A short time later, he stunned the soap world by agreeing to sign on the CBS's As The World Turns. As The World Turns airs in the same timeslot as One Life to Live in most markets, thereby putting the two programs in direct competition.

One Life to Live executive producer Frank Valentini has toyed with fans, but never confirmed or denied that the role of Todd might be recast. However, in recent weeks it has become more and more likely that "Todd" is already back on the show's canvas. A new character by the name of Walker Laurence, played by newcomer Trevor St. John, was introduced in May. In recent days, Walker has exhibited behavior that fans are calling "Todd-like." In fact, Soap Central's OLTL message board and Two Scoops commentary column have both been abuzz with speculation that Walker will turn out to be a post-plastic surgery version of Todd Manning.

But the question now being batted around is whether or not One Life to Live scribes would alter from whatever course they'd penned now that Easton has been inked to the show.

Easton will play John McBain (the character had previously been given the name Mike McBain), a private investigator.

"Frank Valentini [OLTL's executive producer] really wanted him on the show, and he's very excited," says Easton's rep. "He's looking forward to working with one of his best friends, Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio Vega)."

Easton makes his first One Life to Live appearance on October 1st.
