Crystal Chappell extends her Springfield stay

Crystal Chappell has signed a new contract with Guiding Light. The actress, who joined the show in 1999, will stick around Springfield for the immediate future. Though also known for roles on One Life to Live and Days of our Lives, it is Chappell's Guiding Light role that won her a Daytime Emmy in 2002.

Guiding Light fans no longer have to worry about the possible exit of one of the show's leading ladies. Emmy winner Crystal Chappell (Olivia Spencer) has signed a deal that will keep her in Springfield. Rumor has it that the show has already penned a stunning storyline for the actress.

Chappell joined the cast of Guiding Light in July 1999. Prior to that time, the actress had previously appeared on three other daytime drama series -- Days of our Lives, Santa Barbara, and One Life to Live. Chappell's two-year run as OLTL's Maggie Carpenter was the longest of her other soap gigs.

In 2002, Chappell earned the Outstanding Supporting Actress trophy at the Daytime Emmys. She has twice been nominated in the Lead Actress category. Chappell has been pre-nominated for an Emmy by her show every year since 2004.

Despite asking to be let out of her contract in 2005, Chappell inked a one-year contract extension with Guiding Light last year. At the time, the actress said she was "so happy to be staying on Guiding Light for another year."

This time around, the terms of Chappell's new contract were not disclosed. However, the actress will be in Springfield long enough to play out a "very, very different" storyline. While declining to go into further detail so as not to spoil the surprise, Chappell teases that her upcoming storyline is "nothing anybody's ever seen before."
