Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos, General Hospital) just took on one of his most important jobs to date: officiating his daughter's wedding ceremony.

General Hospital fans have watched Maurice Benard in a lot of emotional moments over the years as Sonny Corinthos, but now they have the opportunity to see him in a real-life emotional moment. He recently acted as a marriage officiant at his daughter Cailey's wedding to her fiancé, Carlos.

"Never in my life did I think I would marry anyone, especially not one of my daughters," Benard shared on Instagram along with a video of the special wedding moment. "Marrying Cailey and Carlos was an honor and a privilege not to mention very, very sweet."

As can be seen in the video below, Benard starts out the ceremony -- which was done over Zoom -- by saying, "I've already started getting emotional! First of all, I want to say -- Cailey, when Cailey was born, one of the first things I remember was that she had a ton of hair -- almost like a caveman thing! But she was absolutely stunning. Big brown eyes. Beautiful skin -- like she has now."

He goes on to describe his daughter's personality, calling her tough-minded, a little stubborn, very intelligent, and a lover of animals.

"She was a 'mama's girl,'" the actor added, referring to her relationship with her mother, Benard's wife, Paula. "If I had to do it over, I would have done things more so she'd be a bit more of a 'Daddy's girl.' I always told Paula that she's not going to leave the house, because she was like Paula's tumor! They would do everything together, it was amazing. Wherever Paula was, there was Cailey."

His daughter became more independent after she turned 18 and went to college, which Benard notes in his speech. "She was always ambitious, and I'm so damn proud," he says. "I just want to say that we love you to death."

He continues, "Then, one day, she brought home a guy. His name was Carlos. We thought he was mute because he didn't talk for like a year! I said to Cailey, 'What's up with Carlos?' She said, 'You have to get to know him,' and I said, 'Honey, it's been six months!'"

Benard goes to say that Carlos eventually warmed up to the family. "One day, he started opening up, and we started figuring out who the true Carlos was," he shares. "Inside of him is somebody who's a hard worker, an honorable man, and one thing I can tell you 100% is that he's going to have my daughter's back and we love him like a son."

Check out the video below and let us know what you think about Benard taking on the important job of his daughter's officiant in the Comments section at the end of the article.
