General Hospital tops three key ratings demographics

General Hospital is on track for its most-watched season since 2006-2007. As December began, the ABC soap topped three of the key demographics tallies and logged the largest year-to-year gain in viewership of any soap.

While The Young and the Restless celebrates 25 years as the top-rated soap, General Hospital is celebrating milestones of its own. For the week of December 2, 2013, the ABC soap ranked number one in three of the key demographics areas.

In on-screen story, the residents of Port Charles learned that Robin was alive, and A.J.'s murder trial continued. And those stories appealed to viewers as General Hospital ranked as the #1 program in all of daytime among Women 25-54. This is the first time that GH has topped that demographic in over six years. GH also reigned supreme in the Women 18-34 and Women 18-49.

The last time General Hospital swept all three demographics was the week of July 16, 2007. In case you're wondering what was happening back then, here's a refresher: Alexis and Carly joined forced to bring Jax home, Sam was a woman scorned, and Kate found herself drawn to Sonny. You can read the entire week of recaps in our Daily Recaps Archive.

General Hospital also scored big in total viewers. The week of December 2, 2013, was the most-watched week in nearly six years in total viewers. An average of 3.31 million viewers tuned in during the week. The Friday, December 9 episode logged 3.45 viewers, the show's largest audience since January 21, 2008. Ironically, that episode also featured another Robin bombshell: she learned that she was pregnant.

GH has posted the biggest year-to-year gains of any broadcast daytime drama in total viewers; the show is up 30% over last year at this time. The show is also still on track for its most-watched season in seven years.
