Despite rumor, Robert Guza, Jr. not out as GH's head writer

The Internet was ablaze after a published report stated that Emmy-winning head writer Bob Guza, Jr., had been relieved of his duties at General Hospital. Guza has been head writer since 2002.

Though the network initially offered no comment, a published report indicated that Bob Guza, Jr., would soon be removed from his role as head writer of General Hospital. News of the possible change was first reported by Soap Opera Digest earlier today and set the 'net ablaze. For several hours, "Guza" was a trending topic on Twitter.

However, ABC Soaps In Depth is reporting that the rumor is just that -- a rumor -- and there is no truth to it whatsoever. An ABC spokesperson has also stepped up to confirm that Guza will remain on as the show's head writer.

At that time, the pair was affectionately referred to as "the Juniors." Pratt exited his role as co-head writer in 2003, and Guza continued on by himself.

During his most recent run with General Hospital, Guza has picked up a series of Daytime Emmy wins and nominations. In 2003 and 2009, Guza and his fellow writers were named Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team. The show as nominated in the category in 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008.

This is not the first time that Guza has served as head writer for GH. He was previously employed as top scribe from December 1995 through June 1996. He returned in December 1997, before again exiting in December 2000.

Other recent head writers have included Megan McTavish, Meg Bennett, Elizabeth Korte and Michelle ValJean.
