Brief Character History

Eric Forrester, Jr. ("Rick") is the son of design house Forrester Creations founder Eric Forrester and Brooke Logan. Brooke spent her whole marriage to Eric longing for Eric's eldest son, Ridge Forrester, who became Rick's godfather. Eric was temporarily blinded when he pushed little Rick out of the way of a falling bookcase. Rick had difficulty adjusting when Brooke went back to Ridge; the dastardly Sheila Carter, who had her eye on Eric, became Rick's nanny after Sheila arranged an "accident" for the previous au pair. Rick was primarily raised by Ridge.

As a pre-teen, Rick was taunted by C.J. Garrison, the son of fashion competitor Sally Spectra; C.J. laughed that Rick's half-brother was also his step-father. After Rick and C.J. punched each other at a wedding, Rick was taken for therapy with Ridge's ex-wife, Dr. Taylor Hayes. Rick wanted Brooke to be with Eric, not Ridge, and went to lawyer Connor Davis to ask about his legal rights in terms of living with Eric. Rick continued his battle with C.J. by dumping a bowl of chocolate mousse on C.J.'s head.

Rick and his little sister, Bridget Forrester, went to live with Eric and Stephanie after the disappearance of Brooke, who wandered away in a state of "brief reactive psychosis" after a letter was found suggesting Brooke had fixed Bridget's paternity test. Once Ridge found Brooke in Barbados and brought her back to L.A., Rick and Bridget went home to Brooke, never knowing that Stephanie had lobbied to take custody of them.

Furious when Brooke became engaged to Grant Chambers, pre-teen Rick buried himself in a world of heavy metal and violent video games. Rick became detached from reality and shot Grant with no memory of the event. Rick went back to therapy, this time with Dr. James Warwick, unaware that Ridge had taken the blame for Rick and served jail time to protect him.

A sixteen-year-old Rick fell for the charms of babysitter Amber Moore. Newfound friends Rick and C.J. performed Drive My Car with Amber for a record producer at the Insomnia Café; while celebrating, on a dare from Amber, Rick drag raced C.J. and was seriously injured. Rick received a donated kidney from a guilty Amber and made love to her at the Forrester cabin in Big Bear. When Amber turned up pregnant, Rick stopped her from getting an abortion with the help of C.J., then infuriated his family by asking Amber to marry him.

Dubious about becoming a father at such a young age, Rick turned his attentions toward Kimberly Fairchild, though he did marry Amber in a lavish ceremony. Rick welcomed his son, "Little Eric," after Amber went into labor while visiting her mother, Tawny Moore, but on his honeymoon in Italy, Rick received a shock: his baby died during delivery, so Tawny arranged for Amber to take the unwanted baby of Amber's cousin, Becky Moore. Furious over Amber's deception, Rick went back to Kimberly.

Becky, who had reclaimed "Rick's" son, died moments after marrying C.J., who eventually proposed to Amber; not wanting C.J. to raise Little Eric, Rick located Deacon Sharpe, the boy's biological father, and asked Deacon to grant him sole custody. Rick's plan backfired when Deacon demanded $100,000, then got custody of Little Eric himself and worked to keep a conciliatory Rick from Amber. Rick blanched when Deacon crashed his wedding to Amber with Bridget on his arm, commanding the Forresters to choose between Bridget and Amber.

Rick worried when Amber admitted having some feelings for Deacon, but the newlyweds weathered the storm, and Rick decided to take a more active role at his family business, Forrester Creations. After being humiliated by Ridge in a board meeting, the very green Rick mentored with tycoon Massimo Marone, not knowing Massimo was actually Ridge's biological father. Rick became a more confident businessman, earning a vice presidency and overseeing Amber's very successful Ambrosia line.

Rick stood by Amber when she miscarried his second child and became addicted to painkillers, though he told his troubles to Erica Lovejoy, Little Eric's nanny. Rick felt increasingly drawn to Erica as Amber descended into vandalism, drug possession, and infidelity; Rick didn't believe Amber when she swore Erica was responsible. As Rick was about to give in to his attraction to Erica, Ridge arrived with news that Erica was really Mary Warwick, the daughter of Sheila Carter, who had returned to get Eric back and win Rick for Erica by framing and kidnapping Amber.

Rick was relieved when an X-rated video seemingly starring Amber really featured April Knight, Amber's twin sister. Later, Rick and Amber lost custody of Little Eric to Deacon since they had never legally adopted the boy. Rick divorced Amber after she ran off with Little Eric and sabotaged their visitation rights, then moved on with Caitlin Ramírez, which enraged Caitlin's fireman father, Hector Ramírez; Hector accidentally hit Rick with his truck and would only administer oxygen if Rick swore he hadn't been intimate with Caitlin. Rick also battled Ridge's son, Thomas Forrester, for Caitlin's affections before taking a position at Forrester International in Milan.

Rick returned for Nick Marone's weddings to Bridget and Brooke, but, in 2007, a more devious Rick came home with a chip on his shoulder regarding Ridge. Rick pursued Ridge's daughter, Phoebe Forrester, earning a punch in the face from Ridge during a business trip to Australia. Meanwhile, Rick also resumed an affair with Ashley Abbott, whom he'd dallied with in Paris. Rick performed with aspiring singer Phoebe, but was jealous when Constantine Parros wanted to sign Phoebe to his record label.

Rick was confused by Taylor coming to him for help with Ridge, who had been arrested for murdering Shane McGrath when Shane had really committed suicide in front of Ridge. Rick was floored when Taylor explained how Rick had shot Grant as a child; since Ridge had a police record from taking the blame for Rick, Ridge and Taylor wanted Rick to testify on Ridge's behalf. For Phoebe's sake, Rick accepted responsibility for Grant's shooting, but never actually remembered pulling the trigger. Later, Rick received mixed signals from Phoebe about losing her virginity, especially after Phoebe found out about Ashley; Rick set his sights on Taylor after Phoebe broke up with him and went on tour.

Rick dated Taylor and soon proposed, but Taylor broke things off after the returning Phoebe caught them in bed; Rick blamed Taylor's lingering feelings for Ridge and fought with Ridge on the roof of Forrester Creations. Rick fell and was temporarily paralyzed, keeping quiet about his recovery to manipulate Brooke and Eric into making Rick president of Forrester. Rick later sabotaged a publicity video to make it sound like Brooke only supported Rick, not Ridge.

After Rick came on to Phoebe's sister Steffy Forrester, Rick incurred the wrath of Phoebe, who jumped into Rick's car and pummeled him until Rick lost control and crashed; Rick was genuinely remorseful when Phoebe, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, died from her injuries. Still, Rick played on Brooke's emotions to keep her from sending him back to Europe, infuriated the family by dating Steffy, and gave Forrester designs to competitor Jackie M, all to stick it to Ridge.

After proposing to Steffy, Rick's car exploded and his front door was set on fire; Thomas was trying to scare him. Rick let it slip to Ridge that he had gone after Steffy because of his vendetta against him, not knowing Ridge recorded their conversation and played it for Steffy. Rick and Steffy survived the confession, but parted ways after they realized their families would always have a problem with their relationship. Rick then made peace with both Thomas and Ridge.

Wanting to shake up his life and help Bridget win her babydaddy, Owen Knight, who was married to Jackie Marone, Rick worked to seduce Jackie, offering her champagne dinners and proposing after painting himself to look like a statue. Later, Rick was annoyed when Thomas got his own fashion line at Forrester and pulled strings to help his sister, Hope Logan, reunite with her estranged fiancée, Liam Cooper.

Rick's initial design attempts needed work, so Amber, who was back in town, improved on them, and Rick and Amber secretly teamed up to create a collection. Rick and Amber kissed several times, but Rick also took a brief interest in Forrester intern Beverly, and new designer Caroline Spencer. Rick was perplexed when Caroline backed off, later learning that Amber had doctored photos to make it look like Rick wore women's clothes. When Amber scored potentially tainted antianxiety pills for a dependent Hope, Rick kicked Amber out of his life for good.

On Hope's behalf, Rick romanced Steffy into signing Liam's annulment papers, only find Steffy had written "loser" on the signature line. Eventually deeming Liam unworthy of his sister, Rick had his DJ friend Othello lie that Liam kissed Steffy the night before his wedding to Hope. Rick argued with Thomas over Caroline, and Forrester's interim CEO position; Rick crashed through a second-story window as they struggled; a bush broke his fall. Another quarrel between Rick and Thomas caused Eric to not be present as Stephanie died of lung cancer.

Rick suspected Caroline's diabolical uncle, Bill Spencer, of pushing Caroline over a balcony after Caroline learned of the crimes Bill had committed to keep Liam and Hope apart; Rick got punched by Liam for his own interference. Rick battled Thomas for the presidency of Forrester in a fashion showdown; after he lorded his victory over Thomas, Rick complied with Eric's request that Rick continue Stephanie's work with the homeless and volunteered at Dayzee's (formerly the Insomnia Café where Rick performed with Amber), meeting down-on-her-luck singer Maya Avant. With Caroline becoming increasingly materialistic, Rick found Maya a breath of fresh air and pretended to be a waiter to keep his wealth a secret, which infuriated Maya when she found out.

Rick made Maya the spokesmodel for Hope's HFTF line and continually tried and failed to break up with a clueless Caroline; Rick finally put his foot down when Maya demanded he choose between her and Caroline. Rick was confused later when Maya suddenly dumped him, eventually learning that Bill was blackmailing Maya to clear the way for Caroline. Rick lured Bill onto the mock jail set where Caroline had humiliated Maya by making her model prison chic and locked Bill in the cell to teach him a lesson.

Rick became uncomfortable when Maya won a starring role in web series Room 8 and shared progressively steamier scenes with lawyer/actor Carter Walton. Rick visited the set and found out that Caroline, who knew the show's producer, was sexing up the content to make Rick jealous. Rick and Maya survived the plot, but, when Rick missed the premiere of the reshot first episode, Rick retaliated against Maya kissing Carter by sleeping with Caroline. After Maya dumped Rick and accepted Carter's proposal, Rick reunited with Caroline, proposing by recreating their first meeting on the steps of Forrester.

Rick married Caroline in an impromptu Thanksgiving ceremony, with Carter officiating. Afterwards, an emboldened Maya, who wanted Rick back, cornered Rick in the Forrester steam room; Rick told Carter, feeling he had a right to the truth, prompting Carter to dump Maya. Rick disapproved when Caroline started working closely with Ridge, who had fallen out of a helicopter in the Middle East and suffered some brain damage. Just as Ridge was about to be named CEO, Maya reported seeing Ridge and Caroline kissing, and Rick was promoted instead. A vengeful Rick made Maya lead model and slept with her while pretending to take Caroline back so Eric would sign a paper to make Rick CEO for a year. Secure at Forrester and moving into the mansion, Rick flaunted his affair with Maya and took down Stephanie's portrait in favor of Maya's.

Rick's tyranny gained enemies at Forrester; Rick was shoved to the ground for tormenting Liam's girlfriend, Ivy Forrester. Coming across Stephanie's gun, Rick fired warning shots at Ridge and Caroline; Rick also made his niece, Aly Forrester, rub Maya's feet on the false promise he would produce Aly's shoe designs. Rick believed Maya when she said she needed the estrogen pills Rick found to "regulate" herself, but when Rick proposed to Maya at the Forrester cabin, he learned Maya was transgender.

Rick called it a disgrace when Bill splashed Maya's story across his publications, prompting Maya to run out; Rick followed and crashed his car. Rick nearly lost Eric's backing when Rick charged Ridge during a heated argument, and would have lost Maya had Maya's sister, Nicole Avant, not told Rick where to find Maya; Rick appeared at Maya's table at Dayzee's, recreating their first meeting. Rick accepted Maya's transition but was forced out of the CEO seat when Ridge, Steffy, Thomas, and Liam amassed enough shares to give them controlling interest in Forrester. Rick approached Bill to sway him into not signing his 12.5% to Liam, but when Bill scoffed that Maya would have to go, Rick punched him.

Rick found himself back in a lesser position at Forrester after Maya accepted an offer to headline a fashion show featuring transgender models on the condition Ridge rehire Rick. When Aly, who had a history of mental illness stemming from the childhood death of her mother, started regressing, Rick tried to make restitution for his poor treatment of her. Rick proposed to Maya on the runway in front of her parents, Julius and Vivienne Avant, having to defend his sexuality to Julius. Rick supported Maya, who threw her father out of their wedding for calling it a "freak show"; Rick and his bride honeymooned in Copenhagen.

Rick suggested adoption when Maya wanted a baby, but agreed with Maya's idea that Nicole become their surrogate; Rick faced opposition from Julius, who initially thought Rick wanted to have a child with Nicole the conventional way. After having lost two children with Amber, Rick finally became a father when Nicole presented him and Maya with a daughter, whom Rick named Elizabeth in honor of his grandmother, Beth Logan.

After Eric allowed Ridge to put Stephanie's portrait back up and take down Maya's, Rick and his family moved in with Brooke. Hearing that Ridge had a secret vasectomy, Rick searched Ridge's office for information and grilled his elusive aunt, Katie Logan, who seemed to know something. Rick was ready to leave Los Angeles until Ridge suddenly gave him more responsibility; Rick later scoffed to learn Ridge had tried to pass off Thomas and Caroline's child as his own. But Rick and Ridge were on the same side when they protested Eric romancing and hiring the unstable Quinn Fuller, who, among other things, had tried to kill Liam and pretended they were married when Liam lost his memory.

Rick gave Maya a chance to sing the national anthem at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game, then stood with his family in boycotting Eric's wedding to Quinn. Rick felt terrible afterwards, especially after an enraged Eric collapsed from a brain hemorrhage. Rick and Maya asked Nicole to carry a baby for them a second time, disappointed when Nicole's near-acceptance caused Nicole's boyfriend, Zende Forrester Dominguez, to sleep with Nicole's half-sister, Sasha Thompson, just as Zende had while Nicole was pregnant with "Lizzy."

Rick helped the newly divorced Katie find a house, which happened to be next door to Eric. Rick, who'd already had trouble working under Quinn when she was appointed interim CEO by Eric, fumed when Eric passed him over for CEO and gave the position to Steffy; Rick became co-vice president of Forrester with Ridge and agreed with his usual rival that Eric only did what Quinn wanted him to anymore. Rick further chafed when Eric made Ridge co-CEOs with Steffy at Quinn's behest, though Rick had a lighter moment when he helped Zende arrange an extravagant proposal for Nicole to win her back. Later, Rick was hesitant to give intern Coco Spectra a position given her family's history of stealing Forrester designs, but Rick gave in for the sake of his of his half-brother R.J. Forrester, who stood up for Coco.

Rick surprised himself by throwing his support behind Brooke's wedding to Bill, even jokingly calling Bill "Dad." When Coco's sister, namesake designer Sally Spectra, stole Forrester designs by tricking an unwitting Coco into wearing jewelry rigged with cameras, Rick helped put out business fires; needing to travel to Paris, Rick and Maya tasked Nicole and Zende with sitting for Lizzy. Rick knew Maya hated being away from the baby but encouraged her to take advantage of an extended European photo session, confident Lizzy was in good hands.

Upon returning, Rick and Maya learned there had been a clerical error in Lizzy's adoption papers; when Nicole hedged about signing the updated documents, Rick pressured Nicole to comply, then apologized for pushing her. After Nicole finally finalized the custody agreement, Rick modeled alongside her, Maya, and Carter for a Forrester calendar teasing their upcoming swimwear fashion show in Monte Carlo, where Rick later traveled to represent the company. Rick offered to stay behind and watch Lizzy while Maya, Nicole, and Zende went out celebrating the showing's success and was surprised when Nicole begged off to take care of Lizzy herself. Later, Rick supported Maya's idea to send Nicole and Zende to work at Forrester International in Paris after Lizzy continued to call Nicole "mama" instead of Maya.

Rick agreed with his half-brother, Thorne Forrester, that Ridge had betrayed Brooke and Eric by kissing Eric's wife, Quinn, but grudgingly supported his mother when she decided to marry Ridge again. Later, after discovering that Bill had ruined Steffy's marriage to Liam by having a one-night stand with her, Rick seethed that there was a special place in hell for people like Bill and he wouldn't mind helping Bill get there; Rick worried Maya by remaining stoic over news that Bill had been shot in the back. Rick turned out not to be Bill's shooter, and wanted answers when Liam's brother, Wyatt Spencer, interrupted Liam's wedding to Hope; Rick was not surprised that Bill had again used his trickery to push Liam toward Hope by making Liam think Bill was still engaged in an affair with Steffy.

Rick disappeared from the canvas and was said to be travelling for Forrester; this was confirmed at Thanksgiving 2018 when Brooke mentioned that Rick and Maya were letting R.J. stay with them in Paris. Off-screen, as reported by Maya when she came home solo, Rick filed for divorce from Maya, though it has yet to be specified why.
